Customer Reviews

Look elsewhere for property advice - Rated 1/5
I wish I hadn't bothered. The book is full of 'useful' tips like don't paint rooms deep purple.
Anyone with a modicum of common sense could write this book.

The book you must have if you have read this far!!! - Rated 5/5
I'd recently become interested in making money from property with a view to a permanent income in later life, my first port of call was to amazon to read up on the subject.
This book was one of 6 books that I bought in one hit, on the basis that you can never have too much information. This was the fifth of six that I read and it still had little insights not previously covered. Split fees, Surveyors building price guides, 1977 Rent Act, 1988 Housing Act, Calculating the Yield, etc
This book is very well written with non-patronising worked examples and very clear explanations of terminology new to me. It also contains helpful references for further reading throughout, and covers topics to a level required to stimulate your mind into further more detailed research. This, I feel is very important as the whole subject is not without pitfalls and this book guides you subliminally into researching the subject correctly and succeeds in removing the gung-ho approach of cash burning a hole in your pocket....

Don't bother with this one - Rated 2/5
I don't know who these people are who wrote the reviews above (or are they below?) - friends of the author I would imagine. The book has SOME interesting points in it and does have some things that make you go "are yes that's a good point" BUT it is padded out with the obvious, lots of "case studies" and other space filling techniques (e.g. a few blank or almost blank pages here and there AND a series of very short letters describing how to negotiate the buying price of a property that take up three and half side of the book and could be summarised in about three-quarters of a side).

In my opinion it's a very expensive book for the quantity and quality of material it contains.

Essential reading - Rated 5/5
Unlike similar books written by US authors on the subject of property investment, this book deals with the subject in the UK. Some points made by the author I have not seen anywhere else and could really make the difference between success and failure. It doesn't bang the drum like other motivational investment books but deals with the essentials in a very business like manner. It covers almost every aspect of property investment, but not in tremendous depth, which is pity. This book will give you enough information to get started, but keep your feet on the ground.

To sum up, if you're about to begin investing in property in the UK, you must read this book. I will be looking for more by this author. Definitely worth buying.

Finally, a practical, UK focused real estate book! - Rated 5/5
Since I was already considering investing in the property market but wanted to find out more about the opportunities in the UK, I was getting frustrated at the U.S. focus. When I found this book, I was initially skeptical, but on reading it I found this to be my first step in the property investment ladder.

Invest in this book today and make it your first valuable property investment too!
