Another fine offering from the camera of John Spencer Gilks - Rated These books follow on from the original 'Dawn of the Diesels' series by John Spencer Gilks and focus on the era when diesel was the prominent form of traction on UK lines. The 70's were a transitional era and these unique times have been captured by Gilks on his many travels across the country. As in the original series of books his photographic composition is sometimes amazing in the amount of detail it captures. His captions inform and delight as before however it feels by the Second Volume (1975 - 79) that his interest is starting to wain slightly as his captions generally become shorter and less detailed. Those who have read his earlier books will notice the difference. Overall these are two volumes that have some very interesting, good quality pictures in them. A must for any classic traction enthusiast.
