MORE THAN A TRAVEL BOOK... - Rated
After reading the first few pages I knew I would be forever a fan of Ryszard Kapuscinksi. Writing in a captivating and extremely enjoyable prose, Ryszard attempts to convey the recent history of the Soviet Union and more so its ressiliant and inhabitants. Travelling across the USSR as it begins to crumble, Ryszard describes the strength and endurance of those who survived the cold oppression of the soviet regime. After finishing this book I had the burning urge to read more of this brilliant journalist and can't wait to sample some of his other books.
interesting trip through Russia. - Rated
i have allready read this book and i can say that i was really content by the authors effort. traveling through a such a big country is very attracting indeed. But the ability of the author to describe all parts of Russia is magnificent. it is very important that he gives his own point of view but he also lets the reader speak with some of the persons who live in different coyntries of Russia. the details about the different languages, the customs and the religion give the reader the ability to understand how big Russia really is and also get an idea about how difficult it is to unite all this people under the same government. someone can also compare between nowadays and the days when the commynistik party was running the coyntry. the government who follows one single and the same politik towards all the areas of Russia, has only little chance to succeed this. a government should always pay respect to different cultural groups and take into consideration that all people should have the right to exspress themeselves in their own way. ohterwise two things are possible to hapen. either the government( without using any kind of force)will fale to govern and to its job.people will luse their faith and trust to the constitution pecause they simply will not be able to understand it. on the other part if by any kind of force the different cultures will get lost during the times. the children of the new generation want have the oppurtunity to learn the lenguage of their forefathers, their owm territory in which they get born want actyally mean anything to them because it will not be any different than any other territory in the whole country.
