Bedrang the Stoat has his evil eyes set on ruling over his own empire, and will do anything to make sure that his ultimate fantasy is fulfilled. But little does he realise that the quiet, nameless mouse he is holding captive will one day turn out to be the heroic and fearless Martin the Warrior.

Brian Jacques uses the full force of his stunning storytelling talent to unravel the mystery and adventure that unfolds in this Tale of Redwall as a quiet little mouse refuses to bow down to a tyrant and bids to fight for freedom at any cost. Brimming with cut-throat skullduggery and intellectual intrigue, Martin the Warrior is a mountainous tale that introduces the ethos and passions of Redwall to the reader by fuelling the imagination with a host of well-drawn characters, each with their own Achilles heel, making them feel as real as they are magical. --Susan Harrison

Customer Reviews

A very good well written book by a brilliant author - Rated 5/5
This was the first 'Redwall' book I ever read. It is Fab.

Martian ,a young mouse, is one of Badrang the Stoats many slaves, and unlike the other slaves this mouse is a mouse who has the courage to stand up against Badrang and his many captians and fight for freedom....at what ever cost.

This is a brilliant exciting book that pulls you in. It is so good I ended up reading for 3 hours in one day! A great fantasy for 10-14 year olds. There are about 17 in the sires and they are all Fantastic.

Totally great! - Rated 5/5
The book had a lot of fighting in it, and animals that are in nature. There are a few little songs in it, and a lot of movement. I like it because of all the kinds of animals. An example of the animals is the mice warriors. They are very quick, brave and good. I think it's actually very good.

Great Book - Rated 5/5
Since young childhood I have always been a fan of the Redwall Books by Brian Jacques. But its now that I'm older that I an really understand and enjoy the adult themes running through the books, especially this one. Its a brilliant novel by a brilliant author, and although funny, well-written and enjoyable it has a distinctly sad ending when Martin's only ever love interest, Laterose of Noonvale (Rose) is killed by the baddie Badrang. A true tearjerker, this novel looks kiddy on the outside but well worth it on the inside.

Martin the Warrior - Rated 5/5
When I first picked this book up, I didn't think it would be much, considering that all the characters are bipedal animals. Believe me, I WAS WRONG. This is a brilliant novel, one of the best there are. It involves a young slave, Martin, in the fort of a tyrant, and his struggle for freedom. There are lots of subplots to make the story even more interesting. The action is fast, furious, and thrilling. The characters are great--from villainous corsair to simple woodlander to cruel horde-soldier. The plot is cunning, and always winding so that you're never bored. Every person I know who's laughed at Brian Jacques' books has read one (usually this one), and changed their mind completely. Fine read.

A Somewhat Slow-Paced Adventure - Rated 3/5
Martin the Warrior is a somewhat slowpaced adventure that is quite interesting once you get the book started. Martin the Warrior is the first Redwall Book. Martin the Warrior can be a slow and tedious book for younger readers or readers who are not the slightest bit interested in medieval battles and walking and talking mice.

If you are interested in Medieval battles and walkiung and talking mice, this book is for you!!!!!!!!!!!!
