Unlike some of the reviews which have slated this diverse collection of travel stories, I would recommend lonely planet unpacked. I can only describe it as a mixed christmas stocking, some presents you love and some you don't like. Overall, it is well written, several stories are unfortunately tedious and dull, some are utterly hilarious - see 'tooth' and some are more factual. It's the sort of book that you would enjoy reading if you have plenty of spare time during a holiday and aren't too fussed. Lastly, it probably isnt worth its full price! Overall 3 out of five.

Did you ever wonder what it might be like to work for Lonely Planet? This book certainly gives an insight into the process, and indeed the authors' themselves. Travel is rarely as exciting and glamorous as it sounds, and this is reflected by this book of travel disaster stories. Unfortunately, travel disaster stories are also rarely as interesting and amusing as you might think, as this largely self-indulgent collection of waffle demonstrates.

For example: Our man breaks dental plate on plane out to France, man goes to emergency dentist, dentist fixes plate. Thrilling.

There are a couple of gems in there, but is it worth digging for them??
