A filling main course of a story with a side order of disgust, wonderful. - Rated
Some of the inspiration may be attributed to Lovecraft but I doubt he would have written anything like this.
A darkly, conspiratorial fantasy that strangely ends in a potted, social and cultural history of the 'monsters'(Transhumans).
Brilliant!
Best devoured in one sitting.

The Cannibal Within is an extreme horror novella by Mark Mirabello, a professor of history at an American university. Published originally in Great Britain by Mandrake of Oxford, it has been translated into Italian and published by Edizione Clandestine in Italy.
The writing shows the influence of H.P. Lovecraft, with the addition of extreme sexual violence. In style, which is intense with meaning, it evokes Georges Borges.
The main character is a gaunt and horribly mutilated woman, who bears weird hieroglyphic scars on her body. She bears a peculiar manuscript, written on human skin.
The manuscript describes highly evolved entities called the Transhumans. A cannibal race, these "unknown superiors" eat only "raw flesh, quivering with life." "In particular, they like the soft, white, hairless bodies of young girls."
The monsters fear sunlight ("it makes their skin crack and bleed"), so they live in a complex network of tunnels and caverns that have been slowly--deliberately--carved out of the living rock over the millennia." They do, however, walk among us in disguise.
Here is the first appearance of the Transhumans in the book:
He now had an oversized head with pointed teeth and a large, smooth, hairless body that was yellowish in color. Oddly, he seemed to resemble a monstrous fetus with fangs.
"His penis, which initially appeared small, thin, and malnourished, now appeared colossal--gruesomely exaggerated--in size. Throbbing with criminal lechery--sagging under its own enormous weight--it was as long and thick as a small human arm.
Terrifying to behold, it reminded me of a large poisonous snake, a monstrous marine slug, or some freakish leather dildo. Gorged with blood and covered with swollen veins, it emerged menacingly from his groin.
Such an evil thing, I thought, could not please any woman. An abomination, it could only profane and degrade."
The rest of the book is a litany of blasphemy, rape, castration, and terror.
This book is definitely for adults only! No children allowed.

This seemed like a good premise for a book, demons, pervy sex and a mad undergorund race of creatures. The execution was sadly lacking in both content and style, it reads like a children's book very, simplistic but obviously with the demonics subject matter you couldn't read it to your five year old.
It tried too hard to shock and be controversial and ultimately sacrifices being a good book to achieve these aims. If this was a movie it would have gone straight to video.
Delcious Horror! Better than Lovecraft! - Rated
I love the relentless horror in this book. Every page is page is laden with depravity.
I especially enjoyed the sophisticated technique of including hidden messages. There are suggestive references to Satanism, voodoo, ritual magic, political fascism, freemasonry, Richard Shaver, and a lot more. I even noticed that the beast is speaking ancient Egyptian!
Regular people can enjoy this book, but intelligent people will find hidden byways to explore....
Warning, however: this book is for the hard-core occultist only.
A sample of the style:
"The violation of something private, trembling, and moist arouses them," whispered a female voice.... "With their big, godlike erections, they are rapists by nature."
Stunned by the unusual declaration--pontificated in a matter-of-fact-tone--I said nothing. I simply listened.
"They love to mix blood with their ejaculations, continued the voice. So virgins--untouched by experience--are their preferred victims."
