Useful, interesting but flawed. - Rated
On arrival, I was extremely disappointed with the book, I had expected a more weighty tome for the price. But on reading, there is a lot of useful information for the gardener who wants to experiment with planting and harvesting according to the moon's phases. There is reference to studies done by Maira Thun, supported by bio dynamic farmers which show that crop yield can be increased dramatically by sowing at the correct time. One major mistake in the book are the references to the waxing and waning moons in the planting calender at the back of the book. According to this, the waning moon follows the new moon, when in fact the waxing moon follows the new moon. This could be very confusing for the unaware gardener! The calender, once this mistake has been recognised, is very useful as it gives both the moon's phases and also the position of the moon in relation to the constellations. The book also includes 4 packets of seed which I am waiting for the most benefical time to plant!
