Series of essaysare not always very coherent, but that one's pretty good. It covers various aspects of traditional british brewing and real ale, concentrates on some brewing cities, as well as on some less-known topics, which are all the more interesting. Writing is in general of a rather high level, though some do stand out of the lot (Roger Protz, and the late Ivor Clissold are two of them). If you like British beer at its best, if a well-cared for pint of cask bitter or mild is your idea of a daily treat, then this one's for you.
