Customer Reviews

An excellent reference book - Rated 5/5
This book relates to the 76 Squadron RAF and if you have anyone connected to the squadron as I do then it is a wonderful insight into the workings and operations of a WWII squadron. My grandfather is listed in the book and I salute the dedication and hard work by the author W R Chorley.

An excellent rewiew of 76. Sqdr. mostly during WW2 - Rated 5/5
The book follows 76. Sqdr, Group 4, Bomber Command, RAF mostly during WW2 on 272 well written pages, about 150 of them describing in detail the many eventful sorties and destenies of the crews. At the end is about 70 pages with appendixes mostly statistics on bases, operational sorties with goal, number of despatches and crews failed to return. All these crews are identified with name and fate. The aircrafts attached to the Squadron is listed with detailed information on allocation, number of operations commenced and subsequent fate. As a researcher inspired by my uncles diary from WW2 as a pilot in the squadron, this was the ultimate soarce of getting to know not only the background for the brief descriptions in the diary, but also detailed descriptions by the crews themselves. I feel this as far as it is possible to get without the opportunity of hearing my uncles own words which unfortunately is impossible as he failed to return on an operation to Berlin 17. January 1943.
