Forget hotels - think Special Places - Rated
This guide is all about 'special places' run by 'special people'. They offer a personal welcome in cosy (often luxurious) homes full of character and vitality. These establishments don't conform to tourist board norms, because they have the fingerprints of their owners on them. You will be treated like human beings rather than commodities. So when you plan a holiday in the Cotswolds, Cornwall, Snowdonia, the Lake District, Scotland or Ireland (or in any corner of the British Isles) be sure that you have flicked through the pages of this invaluable guide.
Not only is it a good guide, but also a good read. The inspectors have a knack of catching the essence and individuality of every place included, and there are pictures as well. You will find here a great variety of houses - a medieval house, maybe, a manorial mansion, a converted mill or barn, and even a townhouse in London. There is something here to suit everyone - or possibly all the places will suit eveyone with the same basic philosophy as Alastair Sawday and his team. This includes an awareness of environmental matters and green tourism. (It's well worth buyining the GREEN PLACES TO STAY as well, which has a worldwide coverage.)
I've stayed in many of these places, and have not been disappointed once. This unusual B&B guide is a must for the discerning traveller.

We have happily used Sawdays guides for many years; British B&B, B&B for Gardeners; British Holiday Homes, Italy and recently India. We have just updated to the latest British B&B as our old one is many editions out of date. With the B&B guide, what you are really getting is an introduction to interesting places and people and no nasty surprises; it is Sawdays choice of owners rather than houses which makes it special. We have stayed in dozens of homes with only one bad experience - I told Sawdays and the place was not in the next edition.
Unforgettable - Rated
We used this book when looking for an affordable honeymoon (having overspent on the wedding of course) the result.......A week in a castle with four poster beds ,turrets and a moat ....what more could you ask for ...since then it has been invaluable now we get to stay in the most hospitable places with wonderful hosts and not a dodgy concierge in sight

I have used British Bed and Breakfast several times and have never been disappointed. If I had the time and the money, I'd visit a different place every weekend! The descriptions in the book have always proved accurate, and the hosts friendly but not intrusive. I've recommended it to several friends and they too have been delighted.
