Don't take poaching advice from a game-keeper - Rated 1/5
For many years Peter Hobday was the game-keeper in charge of asking the really tough questions on BBC's Today programme - so he's hardly going to help you become the interviewee from Hell, now is he?

The book helps him manage you giving the message, loading the scales even more in favour of the interviewer. His advice is deep down superficial... and it would be a rash interviewee who relied on this book for any serious help in a controversy.

The anecdotes may be endearing for those with long enough memories to remember Mr Hobday on the wireless. But I imagine we would do better to wait for his senior on the Today Team - Ms Sue McGregor - and her soon to be published programme anecdotes.

Gamekeepers are truly poor guides to poaching - so if you want to know how to poach a fish, don't ask Mr Hobday. Ask Garry Rhodes.

A compelling read - Well written, presented and up-to-date - Rated 5/5
Peter brings his wealth of broadcast experience with the BBC together with up-to-date thinking on the dissemination of information today. How the Internet age changes everything! Discusses in detail examples from both sides of the Atlantic on how politicians and companies are doing things wrong and right. A compelling insight into spin-doctoring and managing your message in the 24-hour media age. Whether you have a message to communicate or just interested in how the media is changing this is a compelling read. Well presented and laid out with keynote summaries at the end of every chapter and a definitive set of notes at the end completes this excellent work.

Superb - Rated 5/5
A superb book - a must for anybody in business likely to meet the media. Real value for money. We will recommend it to our clients.

Interesting, informative and pragmatic - Rated 5/5
Hobday has created the definitive guide to managing the media in the age of spin.

Written in a clear and straightforward way, Managing the Message, has Peter Hobday of BBC Radio 4 fame, giving away the tips of the trade based on his many years at the very top of the broadcasting ladder.

Useful for both PR's and people to whom the media can affect their reputation the book offers practical advice and support.

It reads, at times, autobiographically, which is fine as the author must have interviewed everyone from Thatcher to Blair during his time at the Beeb.

Best of all, Hobday's wit, for which he was reknowned on Today, shines through.

A really great book for fans of Hobday as well as those interested in the media and pr.
