Not as good- but still great - Rated
This book is the second in the Twilight series and is definately not as good as the first book, but it is still gripping and enjoyable. Edward is not in most of the book and Bella on her own can get a little whiny and annoying at times. Its is wonderfully written however, and you can truly feel Bella's pain when Edward leaves her. At times it got a little boring but waiting for Edwards return kept me turning pages and I finished it in less than a day!
Let me just say that I am 28 and I love this series, my husband is also really enjoying it, so dont be put off by finding it in the teenage section!
New Moon - Rated
When I read New Moon, I just seriously couldn't put it down. You know how they say that when you're stuck into a book you can't get out again? I was like that, except I didn't put it down once until I'd read the whole thing.
It was a bit annoying, because then the book seemed small and the events seemed cramped, so I had to read it again slowly for everything to fit in place.
Obviously, my favourite part of the book is when Edward comes back - when he tells Bella that the pictures & the CD were hidden under the floorboards all along - when she realises he loves her. But then, wouldn't that be everyones?
When Jacob Black becomes a werewolf, my heart practically broke - after being destroyed by Edward's dissapearance (although, when Bella realised he loved her, I never really got what was so amazing - I think I skipped the bits where Edward said cruel stuff so I didn't get the gist that he was saying she wasn't good enough for him - I thought all along he left for safety reasons.) When you hear about Jacob's hard set face, solid sarcasm and horrible sneer compared to the tall, young, happy boy who he once was, you realise just how much Bella is going through.
Moving to the Cullens - when Alice first finds Bella again, she seems a completely different character to who she was in Twilight. I got that she was concerned but her sharpness seemed a bit harsh on Bella. Shouldn't it be Rosalie who she is directing her anger at?
Talking of Rosalie, the part where Bella forgives her - where Rosalie attempts to make friends was just so moving I was like OMGOMG!! I am seriously looking forward to the next book so I can get to know Rosalie more. I have read some reviews of Eclipse and they say Bella can't choose between Jacob and Edward - I know it's a hard choice, the Best Friend and the Boyfriend, but seriously - when Jacob has become a jeering, out of control werewolf, and Edward is still the same; gorgeous, irresistable and lovely - it doesn't seem that hard! Bella isn't really developing along with the other characters, I think that she is sort of under-developing: When she first came to Forks in Twilight she was nervous but slightly more sophisticated with problems - but when she turns eighteen in New Moon she seems more childish than ever.
I really hope she becomes a vampire soon - I would love to see her character like that. And I can't wait until Twilight Movie is out - 12/12/08!!! I am going to murder them if it's bad and if it's good they better make movie sequals!
I know its a hard image to capture but a bad movie of my favourite book will just ruin my imagination.
Utter Garbage - Rated
This book is unfortunately the second book in Stephanie Myer's what was promising first series. The story focuses on a relationship between a human and a nice vampire. Sounds really interesting, and potentially dynamic. However this is the last thing New Moon is. It's dull, angsty and a giant Emo fest. I'm sure it appeals to what teenage girls feel but she over wrote it, Myer's repeated for several chapters the depressing "I want to kill myself I've been dumped" tangent and she clearly ran out of ways to say "im depressed" when she just wrote the names of the months in bold in the middle of a page.
I know there is a lot of hype for this "amazing" series, and I agree Twilight was a very good book, and would have made a good stand alone in my opinion, but in terms of writing quaity its utter rubbish. Myers characterisation I feel was terrible from the off set. I never liked Bella at all, a very feeble, selfish, cliched female protagonist who I felt no sympathy for, and everything bad situation she ends up in is her fault in the first place, yet we are still meant to feel bad for her!!
Edward Cullen... For somebody who is supposed to be hundred of years old, he acts like a lovestruck 12 year old, a lot of his dialogue is laughably tacky and sentimental, whislt Myers appears to develop his character, I get to the end of the book and still dont really know much about his character, and this is two books in!
I'm surprised no one has rated this book lower as it the weakest book in the series by far, Myers could have done a lot more with this story than she has, and considering how long this book actually is, it delivers a pathetic amount of story filled with metaphors of how her heart is broken blah blah.
Avoid like the plague.
a vast improvement on its prequel - Rated
Bella, the starry-eyed just-turned-eighteen protagonist of the previous novel 'Twilight', had expected her relationship with Edward to be one of never-ending delight, but in 'New Moon' is just beggining to discover the complexities and difficulties arising from being in love with a vampire. Bella's childhood friend, Jacob Black, becomes an increasingly powerful presence and possible rival for Bella's affections... Circumstances soon test Edward and Bella's love to its limits - and as misunderstandings follow tragedies they quickly become embroiled in desperate struggle not only for their love, but for their lives...
A vast improvement on its prequel, 'New Moon' evokes a real sense of suspense, loss and longing. The characters are more believable as they are finally becoming more aware of the consequences of their actions - and this subsequently strengthens the plot. Although the main storyline is a familiar one, I finally got a sense of Edward and Bella's commitment to one another that 'Twilight' failed to evoke. If you enjoyed 'Twilight' this is well worth reading.
Some Quality Time With Bella - Rated
I wont spoil the plot but i loved that we spent this book with only Bella most of the time and got to know the character more and not just what she was like with Edward around.
A Must-Read for anyone who has had their heart broken.
