Very clear and engaging for my toddler - Rated
With 5 weeks to go until I have my second I've been reading this to my 20 month old. He sits very still and really listens to the story so obviously finds it very engaging. I like the fact it touches on lots of aspects of expecting a new baby (he'll sleep in my old cot/putting clothes in the drawer ready for him) to what it's like when the baby arrives (babies can't talk so they cry when they want something etc). Think it makes a great accompaniment to similar books that explore the more emotional side of a new arrival.
I have brought it 4 times so far!! - Rated
I brought this book for my 18mth old son when my daughter was just 2mths old. It was brilliant and covered everything from using his old cot and nappy changing to breast feeding and bathing the new baby. Both my children still read the book!I have now brought it for three other friends who are now pregnant with their second child.
Excellent - Rated
This is the first "proper" story my nearly 2 year old son has sat and listened to. He loves it, and obviously understands that just like Tony, he too is going to have a baby brother or sister soon. I highly recommend it as both a lovely story and great preparation for a new sibling.
Hurrah! A kid's book with breastfeeding! - Rated
I have fond memories of "old school" T&T books, and this is just as good (I'm not sure if it's an update of an oldie or a new title) Topsy and Tim go to see a friend's new baby brother, two favourite parts are when the baby cries and his brother says he's "poohed his pants" and when the baby is fed and it's breastfeed! So many children's books these days feature bottles - even ones with animal characters! So it's lovely to see a book for kids with a baby being fed properly.
Handy for your second baby! - Rated
If you are expecting your second child then "Topsy and Tim and the new baby" is for you. I prepared my 2 year old son for the impending arrival of his brother with this book and I think it contributed a lot to his delight on the babys arrival. As usual T and T run their mundane lives that appeal to children so much, visiting Tony Welch's new baby, seeing it breastfed, changed and bathed. It also shows that Tony is at times ambivalent about the baby. I have since bought it for friends second children with great success.
