A Classic Mountaineering Book Republished - Rated Slingsby's book is one of the very few books available on the Norwegian mountains. Invaluable for anyone contemplating climbing in Norway, it is also a "cracking read" in its own right. Highly recommended. There are also some useful notes on "Mountaineering In Norway Today". For those of you who haven't been to Norway, the cover picture should be enough to wet your appetite! Slingsby's Norway - Rated An absolute must for any walker/climber/adventurer visiting Norway- keep it in the top pocket of your rucksack! As anyone will know who has ever tried to get books on Norway's mountains - there arent any ....or hardly any so this classic book reprinted was badly needed. It tells the story of Slingsby's first ascent of many Norwegian peaks and is an extremely good read as well as being wonderfully illustrated ( the book is worth buying for its superb front cover alone) . Although written 100 years ago Norway has not been developed in the same way that the Alps and other areas have and so many parts of Slingsby's book are still relevant today.It is not a true" guidebook" but a collection of fascinating narratives told in a way only Slingsby could with his love of the Norwegian wild places. The book does however contain enough useful information to give some good ideas for a good itinery for a walking/mountaining holiday ..........but its far more than that ..its also an exciting read from the comfort of your armchair. So pack it with your boots or keep by your bedside.
