THE ONLY GUIDE YOU NEED FOR SOUTH AMERICA - Rated
This is the seminal work on travelling in South America: look no further and buy this book right away if you are planning a trip there. I have just come back from my holiday, covering Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, the Galapagos Is, and Venezuela. I usually use Rough Guides and took the RG to South America, but the Footprint guide was far, far superior.
The South American Handbook tells you absoutely everything the traveller needs to know, whether you are loaded with cash or desperately trying to see everything for next to nothing! Where it really comes in to its own is in the details: unlike any other travel guide I have seen, this book tells you exactly where to catch the bus, how much it costs, when it goes and how often, as well as charming little bits of extra info such as whether or not to trust the bus drivers sobriety (see Bolivia!).
Not once was I let down by this book, and I used it every single day. The reviews are accurate and reliable; a word of advice: if the hotel you are staying in is not reveiwed, dont expect it to be any good! South America can be a big daunting and unfriendly place at times, and it is important to have a source you can trust at your side when the going gets tough. Ignore Lonely Planet (the very WORST guide to Latin America) and all the rest, this book is superb. It will become your best friend and everyone you meet will want to borrow it!
