One for the road not the coffee table - Rated
I found used this book in Rio, Bahia, the Amazon and Recife. It was great.
It is aimed at travelers who want abundant, accurate information. It is not an illustrated guide with lots of diagrams and pictures. But it has far more info than all the others - the small print and page count mean that there's just much more there. And the pics at the front give a good idea of the highlights.
I also really liked the background essays on music, festivals and general culture and the boxes - loads of really interesting quirky facts and great tips.

Not a good travel book at all. Full of information but not presented in the correct way, how can you call this a travel book . When it takes you 15min and a magnifying glass to find the information you need!! Stick to the good travel guides like DK . Utter waste of time,sent my edition back today.

Best for Brazil - Rated
I used this book in Rio, São Pauloand the Amazon, alongside the LP. The Footprint was way more up to date and had far more detail on lodges, restaurants and hotels than other guides I've seen. The background information - especially on music, culture in Rio and conservation in the Amazon was much more interesting. I'll be using Footprint for future trips if this book's anything to go by.
