A book for all about sucking the marrow from the bone of life - Rated
Both my 5 year old daughter and her grandma got something from this great little book. An entertaining picture book about overcoming fear and uncertainty loved by all who have read it. My daughter was going to a new swim school and was worried about it all being new, we talked about how scaredy squirrel would cope with it and she felt a little better. Her grandma lost her much loved husband in a tragic accident last year and is still trying to deal with it. She said that reading this book helped her cope with all the new emotions and activities she now had to deal with and thought how scaredy squirrel would handle them. All this from such a simple book.
a surprising success - Rated
I thought this book, which is very witty and genuinely fresh, might appeal more to adults than to small children but I must say children do like it, perhaps partly because it used that familiar technique of repetition with slight variations throughout. Scaredy Squirrel lives a dull life because he is frightened ever to leave his tree (the reasons why are amusing). One day he does leave, by accident, with startling results, and it changes his life ... well, just a little. He's still pretty timid. In the excellent world of good children's books, this is just that little bit different and very good fun.
Filled With Fun - Rated
I recomend this book to anyone who likes children's books. It may be slightley unsuitable for very young children as it has lots of big words in it!
If you want to know why a squirrel has a tin of sardines you have to read it!
I only wish it was longer!
A work of genius! - Rated
This is a very funny, very clever book, just right for our times! Poor Scaredy is scared of everything and never leaves his nut tree, even though it makes life rather boring. Until one day he is catapulted into the wide world, only to find that the unknown isn't nearly as scary as he thought. As well as being very funny, this is also a very reassuring book for nervous children - and their parents! Hugely recommended and I hope there are more Scaredy stories to come.
