The Story Tree - or - Dutch Elm disease's last stand! - Rated
The packaging is attractive and the collection of stories are trusty traditional narratives. Really, this audio book should be a super part of any child's collection and could have easily been a super resource for primary schools over both Key Stages... It is however the most uninspiring presentation I think I have ever heard! Mr. Lupton should have had the grace and good sense to realise that his, is not the voice to enthuse children. His tones are totally flat and lifeless; more suited methinks to teenage horror stories!
What a pity that this potentially wonderful package is ruined by his, sorry, awful reading voice.
P.S. If Barefoot Books want to do a remake - I'm available!!
The CD you'll hate. - Rated
The narrator manages to make these lovely stories sound utterly depressing. I bought this on the strength of earlier reviews and everyone (including the children) was so disappointed. The only nice bit is the little music in between the stories. For the rest forget it, it's not worth your money.
good stories but boring reader - Rated
Both my four year old daughter and I like the stories but having listened to The Enormous Crocodile read by Stephen Fry and other stories read by Hugh Laurie, we were both disappointed by the Hugh Lupton's lack of enthusiasm and zest when reading the Story Tree. My daughter quickly pointed out that all the characters have the same voice, even the old lady and the young girl in the Magic Porridge Pot. I think how a story is read (especially one without the visuals) is essential for its enjoyment so all these stories would have benefited from a different kind of reading.
The Sotry Tree - best story CD yet ! - Rated
My son loves audio CDs and has lots but this has to be the best one yet - not the usual nursery rhymes and mainstream stories which pop up on other Cds but a rich variety of lovely and unusual stories from around the world - we love this and the great tune too - highly recommended !
Seven delightfully illustrated moral stories - Rated
A delightfully illustrated book of seven unusual stories, each with a moral for children to think about. A charming, calming bed time story book with tales from different cultures.
