Customer Reviews

Enough is Enough - Rated 1/5
As a Chalet fan of many years standing (over 30) I for one am sick and tired of these 'authors' jumping on the bandwagon with these so called 'Chalet Books'. The Chalet School series was the totally unique creation of one amazing woman, Elinor Brent-Dyer and it is time people realised that the writing of the books died with her, and stopped borrowing her ideas in an attempt to get published and make a bit of money in the process. To all budding authors, if you can write, come up with something original of your own and stop borrowing from other people. It borders on plagerism.

The Chalet School Librarian - Rated 2/5
Not the best 'Brent-Dyer' fill-in, although the author has tried to encompass past phrases. The plot is predictable - (admittedly just like EBD plots!) and comes across as a fairly shallow story. As a previous review stated, I too was infuriated by the 'it's' incorrectly placed throughout the text. Surely a proof reader worth anything knows something about grammar. Whoever proof read this was definitely overpaid.
I suggest that this book would not have been published had the author approached Bettany Press or GGBP.
A fairly enjoyable read, but I probably wouldn't bother again.

Badly edited and rather pedestrian - Rated 2/5
This isn't the greatest Chalet School follow-on/fill-in ever! To start with, its editing is extremely poor. I suggest the editor learns how to distinguish between ITS and IT'S. Miss Annersley, likewise, would never have said 'Myself and Miss Wilson' (or similar; sorry, I do not have the book to hand to check the exact quotation).

That the author has borrowed a previously-used Brent-Dyer plot is excusable. The redoubtable Miss Brent-Dyer does it herself (e.g. her absorption of a rival school into the main body of the Chalet School, which she uses on several occasions). Yet the reworking of the Kathie Ferrars 'New Mistress' plot is almost a direct lift.

As for the story itself, I'm afraid it is slow and unmemorable.

It's a shame, because the innovations suggested by Mrs. Willimott are very much in the spirit of the Chalet School series. Perhaps had she approached Bettany Press or Girls Gone By, the editors there could have enabled her to produce a much more admirable work.

A good read for those who love the Chalet school books - Rated 4/5
This is another of the books that takes the Chalet School along further, after Brent Dyer's death brought it to a conclusion - however, this one really follow the style and format of a true chalet school book - including some of the stock phrases right from the beginning! Reminiscences of New Mistress at the Chalet School but with her own variation, Pat Willimott has written an enjoyable sequel to the series.

Len is now married to Reg (following oin from New Beginnings) and is the much loved teacher of Lower IIIA. The library and swimming pool have been completed; and a new librarian is introduced to the school (prepare for feathers to fly when the Library prefect feels her role has been diminished!)

Chalet School afficionados should enjoy this one!

Typically, on the lines of EBD herself, there are errors in the book. See if you can spot them! On re-reading tonight, I noticed one linguistic error; one historical error and one name error.

How many has anyone else spotted? And have you found the same ones that I have!
