Customer Reviews

An oasis of quiet sanity - Rated 5/5
This is one of those books which avoids accepted theological jargon, taking a fresh look at some of the issues which confront honest doubters who want to believe, but sometimes find the Church less than helpful as a place to ask questions , or to grow. Chris Scott's book looks in a straight forward way at what our relationship with God might really be about. It is written with considerable insight and honesty, and spiced with a gentle self deprecating humour. I commend this book highly.

A new look at Religious dogma - Rated 5/5
Written by an anglican priest and psychologist, this book is a road map for anyone looking for a life with a spiritual dimension, free from dogmatic belief systems. That is everything from Agnosticism to religious fundamentalism. It is written with humour and a deep understanding of what it is to be human.

Each chapter deal with a different Christian dogma and questions it against 21st century scientific knowledge. One by one these beliefs are looked at from a different perspective and are converted from a dogmatic belief to a practrical guide for those searching for a spiritual dimension and guidance in their lives.

It is full of challenges and surprises but also of comforting quotes from spiritual writings, much loved stories and childhood books.

Finally, for those brought up within a Christian Community, there is the comforting realisation that the desire to lead a spiritual life does not mean we have to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
