Flashing Blades! - Rated 5/5
This is a great book to remember some of the biggest games in United's history by. 12 Blades legends have each picked their favourite game and talked about it in detail. Some of the choices are obvious - Tony Currie picking that West Ham game with his fantastic goal and Bob Booker choosing the promotion match at Leicester in 1990, while current United skipper Phil Jagielka remembers the victory over Hull in April which all but sealed promotion to the Premiership.
Each chapter relives the games in full and tells you plenty more about each of the players' careers. I particularly enjoyed learning about some of the old United leegnds who have taken part such as Colin Grainger, who scored twice on his England debut against Brazil!, goalkeeper Alan Hodgkinson and Tommy Hoyland (father of Jamie).
There are plenty of great titbits too. For example Tony Currie tells us how Tommy Docherty wanted him to replace Bobby Charlton at Manchester United in the mid-1970s and Gary Hamson talks about how lazy he thought Alex Sabella was!
I got my copy at the book's launch at Waterstone's in Sheffield last week and had it signed by Alan Kelly, Tony Currie and Keith Edwards, all of whom have contributed to this fantastic book. There was a massive queue, whicb tells you al you need to know about hwat a great Christmas present this will make for every United fan.
