Bought this book expecting a normal sized paperback, but then.......a ginormous package arrived! My boyfriend eagerly tore it open (it was his birthday present) and inside found a hardback book of about 40cm x 30cm! Im goung to take great pleasure watching him trying to hold that above his head while reading at night! It's a great book, but I think it's more of a hommage to Ralph Steadmans art than Thompsons writing. Still, it's a great buy!

This book is absolutely fantastic. A must buy for any of you true Hunter Thompson fans. Or for anyone in fact! A literary monument to the genius that was our very own Hunter. The book itself is more a piece of art. Superb!!!!

After days of chasing the postman around with a little 'we missed you' card I finally received my latest purchase. I expected a paperback novel; what I got was big, heavy and definately HARD BACK! Finding a sturdy table to rest it on I started to plough through the gargantuan book. Anyone expecting an involving read a la Fear and Loathing is going to be disappointed; it displays Steadman's talent far more eloquently than it does Thompson's, to the extent that I found myself having to resist having a sneaky peek at the next full-page illustration before finishing the text on the present page. For Hunter fans, this is a valid purchase but the moments of gonzo genius are few and far between in comparison to Hells Angels and Fear and Loathing in LA. Read it once and flick through the illustration for ever after.

Christ, I've been trying to get hold of this book for 15 years and now it's here, hurrah! Quite simply one of the most beautiful books I have ever laid my hands on, it makes Bukowski's Black Sparrow Press editions look like cheap porn. As for the actual writing, while some of if is not prime 100% pure gonzo genius it's close enough and there are flashes of that old Thompson magic- the opening letter to Ralph Steadman being a good example. Put simply, if you like HST, buy this book- it will make you very happy indeed. Indeed.

This is most definitely not a paperback book ... at 28cm x 37cm this is by far the largest hardcover book I own and is so gigantic that it quickly crushed my bookcase into splinters. It's so big I'm not quite sure what to do with it ... I would need a team of twelve men simply to help me read the thing. Craziness...
